In addition to the 8 Family Series release earlier this fall, John Deere announced updates to the 7R Tractor lineup for model year 2020. The major updates focus on comfort, power, technology, and providing more options for the purchaser.

There are now seven models available ranging from 210 to 330 engine horsepower, making this the ideal tractor for a variety of diversified crop and livestock producers, commercial hay growers, and transport operations. The majority of updates and new features are similar to those of the John Deere 8 Family Series.

All-New Larger Cab

The John Deere 7R Tractors feature a larger, more comfortable cab. There is additional headroom, a 24% wider entry path, and several seat options. There are three Comfort and Convenience Cab packages to choose from that include, Select, Premium or Ultimate. The Ultimate Cab includes an exclusive new leather seat with electronic adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage features, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen radio with smartphone ready connection and multi-speaker system. Also included in the Ultimate Cab are a leather-wrapped steering wheel, footrests and carpeted floor mat.

There are three additional ride comfort options available: air seat, ActiveSeat™ II (which utilizes an electrical control system to control the vertical seat top movement), and the new cab suspension system. The new cab suspension system delivers improved ride quality with fewer moving parts than the previous hydro-pneumatic cab suspension system. You can also add the proven Triple-Link Suspension Plus™ (TLS Plus), a fully integrated, self-leveling front suspension system to increase productivity and improve ride dramatically.

Visibility

There are also three new packages for visibility. The Ultimate Visibility package includes 22 LED work lights, eight new LED convenience lights, integrated front and rearview cameras, and four auxiliary camera inputs all strategically located to help the operator see 360 degrees around the tractor or implement. The Ultimate package features twice as many lights as current models to keep you running smoothly after dark.

Precision Ag Technology

7R Tractors come standard equipped with an integrated Gen 4 4600 CommandCenter™ display, StarFire™ 6000 integrated receiver, AutoTrac™ activation, and JDLink ™ Connect for 5 years. The new StarFire 6000 integrated receiver requires no calibration of the Terrain Compensation Module (TCM), is more accurate than previous models, and is less vulnerable to theft.

You can mix and match cab and visibility packages or simply get the highest-level of Comfort and Convenience, Visibility, Precision Ag Technology activation and connectivity, and ride comfort with the John Deere Signature Edition.

Transmission

All 7R Tractors are ideal for doing seeding, loader work or baling, thanks to their highly maneuverable short wheelbase. A smooth-shifting e23™ PowerShift transmission is standard and can handle sudden, high-torque power loads while maintaining responsive, quick and smooth shifts. Three modes of operation can automate gear selection and RPMs to keep the desired ground speed maintained based on load. Customers can also choose the optional Infinitely Variable Transmission™ (IVT).

CommandPRO™ is now an available option on all 7R Tractors equipped with IVT. It is an ergonomic multi-function control lever that puts tractor speed, direction and implement control in the palm of the operator's hand. Any of the 11 reconfigurable buttons can be customized to your specific needs and individual settings can be saved for different operators. This option can be extremely helpful with implement hookups and road transport.

Dependability and Servicing

To improve dependability and simplify routine maintenance, Deere improved hydraulic and electrical routings, relocated and improved access for other components, simplified systems, and improved onboard diagnostics. In addition, the number of hydraulic connections were reduced, decreasing the number of potential leak points. A new decal was placed inside the tractor’s hood panel with service and maintenance points clearly identified to make these tasks easier to perform. They also increased the number of part reuse from 8R Tractors for added reliability and commonality.

Category 4 Heavy-Duty Drawbar

A Category 4 adjustable swinging drawbar with clevis and 2-in. pin with heavy-duty support is now available for John Deere 7R Tractors and will come in base on the 310-hp and 330-hp models. These drawbars can support up to a 11,000-lb. maximum vertical load.

The 7R Tractors will also feature the new name and number format as the 8 Family Series. The tractors now feature the tractor model listed separately from the rated engine horsepower. For example, 7R 330 Tractor.
