John Deere Updates their 6R Series for 2022

Dec. 8 2021 Announcements By Prairie State Tractor

Recently John Deere revealed their updated Model Year 2022 6R tractor lineup. The updated 6R Series expands the portfolio to deliver the right power-to-weight ratio to fit the producer’s application. The new lineup maximizes productivity and efficiency by leveraging new technology offerings in combination with the proven reliability and durability of the 6R Series. Let's dive into the changes that have been made.

Two new models expand the offering of power-dense tractors

The updated 6R Tractor lineup includes new 6R 140 and 6R 165 models. The 6R 140 gives producers a fourth choice in the 110-hp to 140-hp small-frame class, and the 6R 165 adds a third model to the mid-frame lineup of 45-hp to 165-hp tractors. With power bulge and Intelligent Power Management (IPM), the 6R 140 and 6R 165 deliver a maximum of  166 hp and 212 hp in tough conditions such as heavy transport, PTO, or hydraulic applications. These new additions deliver more power and versatility to the 6R lineup.

New name and numbering

The model year 2022 6R Tractors feature updated styling along with a new name and numbering scheme that is aligned with the 7R, 8R, and 9R Tractors. The new 6R Tractors feature the tractor series listed separately from the rated engine horsepower.

New Standard, Premium, and Ultimate cab packages

The 6R tractors have three cab packages designed to match the producer’s operations. The cab packages are based on three levels of comfort: economy, standard, and premium. In addition, 6R tractors have two configurations available: a right-hand console for the AutoQuad™ PLUS transmission and the CommandARM™ console for the IVT™ and DirectDrive transmissions. Hydraulic cab suspension is required for the Ultimate cab package and is an option for the Standard and Premium packages.

New Hydraulic Intelligent Power Management (IPM)

As a supplement to PTO and transport applications, IPM also delivers additional horsepower for hydraulically driven implements. Hydraulic IPM keeps tractor wheel speed constant during applications that use power-hungry hydraulically driven implements like slurry tankers, sprayers, or manure spreaders. When using hydraulically driven implements, engine power is increased gradually when ground speed exceeds 0.6 mph if the tractor electronic system detects a correspondingly high hydraulic power requirement. Full power becomes available from a speed of 1.5 mph.

New reversible fan

Optimize engine performance in dusty environments by utilizing the optional reversible fan technology available on all 6R tractors. The reversible fan allows the operator to quickly clean radiator screens from the comfort of the cab. By manually activating the system with a switch in the cab, the radiator fan blades blow out dust and debris away from the radiator. This function enables the engine to run cooler, resulting in fuel savings, less downtime, and overall increased efficiency.

Increased hitch lift capacity

6R 110 to 6R 140 tractors feature an increase in rear hitch lift capacity from 5582 lb to 7900 lb in base equipment. For applications requiring additional rear hitch lift capacity, these tractors can be configured with larger lift cylinders to achieve 9020 lb.

New corner post display provides critical machine functions

The corner post display features state-of-the-art electronic instrumentation and blends well with the narrow right-hand cab post. This intuitive design eliminates the instrument panel once surrounding the steering column while increasing forward-facing visibility. In addition to displaying machine information, the corner post display also serves as the primary interface between the tractor and operator when adjusting hitch, transmission, hydraulic, and engine settings.

New electronic loader control with integrated reverser

The updated ergonomic electrical joystick is reconfigurable and features an integrated reverser switch that allows operators to control the direction of the tractor using the loader control. The control can be ordered separately or included in the loader preparation and loader-ready packages. The electric joystick is either mounted on the CommandARM console or the armrest (with the right-hand console). The following functions can be controlled:

  • Front loader operation (with mid-selective control valve [SCV])
  • Front hitch operation
  • Reconfigurable SCV control (all installed SCVs)

Loader technology

Deliver higher levels of proficiency and productivity with the new Loader Technology packages available with the 6R tractors. The Technology Packages require electrical hydraulic controls and a compatible loader. To utilize the new technology features, the 6R Tractor must be configured with either:

  • Tractor preparation for complete Loader Technology Package
  • Tractor preparation for Return to Position and Dynamic Weighing System

Dynamic Weighing System (DWS)

Enhance precision on the go. The DWS provides the operator with real-time weights that enable them to fill the loader to a desired weight. This system delivers efficiency by reducing unnecessary trips to the feed source and allows operators to effectively manage the right combination of inputs into feed rations.

Return to Position (RTP)

Boost productivity for repetitive tasks. With RTP, operators can save up to four implement positions for quick and comfortable recall with the loader control.

Level to Horizon (LTH)

Prevent material losses while maintaining tractor speed with the LTH feature, which keeps the loader attachment level in uneven terrain.

New 1000E PTO availability

All 6R Tractors can be configured with an optional 1000E PTO offering.
