John Deere reveals new Electric Variable Transmission (EVT) for 2023

Mar. 7 2022 Agriculture By Prairie State Tractor

With the Commodity Classic approaching, John Deere revealed updates to its 7, 8, and 9 Series Tractors for model year 2023 by adding new technology and power to an already impressive list of features. Let's dive in and explore these new updates!

Electric Variable Transmission (EVT)

For model year 2023, the John Deere 8R 410, 8RT 410, and 8RX 410 models can be equipped with industry-exclusive EVT for precise power and speed control. EVT replaces hydro modules with an electric motor/generator for a high-power stepless transmission on 8 Series 410 models. EVT offers improved acceleration and seamless shifting though the entire speed range compared to gearshift transmissions. It also maintains efficient power transfer from the engine to the drawbar for low fluid consumption and excellent pulling performance. Operators who select EVT will also experience a noticeable reduction in drivetrain noise due to the quiet nature of electric drive components.

Electric power generation

Electric power generation is optional on 8 Series Tractors equipped with the EVT transmission. This feature enables 100 kW of electrical power to be offboarded through the transmission onto towed implements equipped with electric traction drives. Electric power generation will change the way farm equipment is approached in the future.

13.6L JD14 engine

For Model year 2023, 9R and 9RX 640 model tractors will be equipped with the JD14 engine (13.6L [827 cu in]) These models will feature a rated power level of 471 kW (640 hp) with a maximum engine power of 508 kW (691 hp).  The JD14 engine provides excellent power and lugging with an improved torque curve to pull large implements through the field efficiently.  The JD14 engine also provides increased operational efficiency by leveraging modern high-horsepower diesel engine components like high-pressure common rail (HPCR) to increase fuel efficiency, a hydraulic fan drive to maintain optimum engine temperatures, a redesigned gear train to reduce engine noise, and an overall engine layout design focused on ease of maintenance. Based upon internal testing, the JD14 engine has the same drawbar pull as the previous 15L Cummins engine but uses 7 percent less fuel.

Android Auto app for touchscreen radio

Android users rejoice! The Premium and Ultimate Comfort and Convenience package now includes the Android Auto app to enhance connectivity for producers who use Android based mobile devices. This feature will be installed on 7, 8, and 9 Series Tractors beginning in spring 2022.

Triple-Link Suspension (TLS) moved to base on 7 Series Tractors

For model year 2023, the TLS axle is moved to base on all 7 Series Tractors. The TLS axle is a fully integrated, self-leveling suspension system that increases productivity and ride quality.
