Z500 ZTrak Series Updated for 2021
Deere’s mid-sized residential zero-turn lawn mower series, the Z500 Series, has been updated for model year 2021. The perfect size for many homeowners looking to mow both efficiently and effectively. The Z500 Series includes three mower deck cutting widths and three tiers of performance E, M, and R. Deere has further improved this series for 2021. These updates focus on increased comfort, advanced controls, superior durability and performance, enhanced safety features, and an overall updated design.
Today, we will discuss the details of these improvements in each specific area of the Z500 design:
Comfort
The operator station is designed to provide superior comfort for each unique operator. The design features a large foot platform with plenty of legroom, plus rubber floor mats, rubber toe board, and adjustable foot pegs (standard on R models). Operators may also adjust mower’s seat position, armrests, and spring suspension to fit their specific preferences as well as utilize the adjustable premium motion-control (steering) levers. The seat features two-suspension springs, fore-aft seat adjustment and the option of ComfortGlide™. The advanced ComfortGlide Suspension is an additional system that allows a controlled fore and aft movement of the seat when in uneven terrain (available on the M and R Series only). ComfortGlide greatly improves ride comfort by reducing horizontal vibrations and jarring movements.
Controls
The updated control console is located on the right of the operator station and includes an easy-to-read, advanced instrument display with electric fuel gauge and controls. The advanced instrument display has the look and feel of a modern automobile with a power-up sequence that cycles lights and gauges to indicate they are working properly. A conveniently located fuel-sight window allows the operator to view the fuel level when approaching the vehicle from the front. Mower deck cut height can be adjusted easily from the seat and locked into transport mode. Safety interlocks help prevent operation of the mower in an unsafe way. For example: a larger park brake lever must be engaged, and the steering levers must be in the outward position to start the engine.
Durability and Performance
The high-capacity mower decks on the Z500 Series deliver an excellent cut quality, productivity, cleanliness, durability and versatility. The deep-deck design allows for optimal mowing, mulching or bagging performance with the option of the MulchControl™ attachment or a Material Collections System (MCS). The deck has deep, strong spindle pockets to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough operation, and flip-up spindle covers make cleaning the spindle area convenient. The stamped-steel design eliminates sharp edges and corners where material can build up and diminish mowing performance. The mower deck is suspended from the vehicle for a smooth and level cut while adjustable mower wheels positioned just above ground level help smooth out the mowing job.
The Z530M and Z530R have a large 44.3-cu in. V-twin engine with premium features that provide superior performance and reliability. The engine area is open for visibility to important service points, making it easy to inspect and clean the engine. The 4.5-gallon fuel capacity allows for extended mowing times. A convenient service interval decal provides basic maintenance information. The engine oil fill/check tube is easy to see and reach, and the oil drain tube is provided for easier, cleaner oil changes. The footrest area is removeable without tools to easily access the mower deck for service. Spring-loaded, flip-up belt guards make removing debris easy, and the deck-leveling gauge and wrench are conveniently stored on the machine. All of these durability and servicing improvements are backed by a 4-year, 500-hour warranty (whichever comes first).
Safety
The Z500 Series now comes standard with the proven Deere Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) and seat belts. The ROPS and seat belt work in conjunction to provide a protective area around the operator. It reduces the risk of the operator being crushed under the mower should it overturn. In most cases, the ROPS also limits the overturn to usually less than 90 degrees. Use of the seat belt on the mower is recommended when the ROPS is in the upright position, and when used together, the ROPS and seat belt are very effective in preventing death and serious energy. The ROPS is easy to fold down when not in use for storage in smaller locations.
Design
Deere also updated the appearance features of the Z530R and Z545R. The seats now feature distinctive green accents on the signature yellow seat. The motion-control levers are also painted green with additional material for increased steering comfort. Both models showcase a green fender trim and more automotive styled rear wheel rims. The new design includes LED lighting: two front lights for forward visibility and side light to provide visibility for the mower deck. A strong rear frame is designed to accommodate a rear hitch that can be used to pull a variety of lawn equipment attachments (optional on the E/M models). The Z530R and Z545R feature larger rear tires and large, smooth-riding front caster wheels.
