We would like to take a moment to express our appreciation here at Holland and Sons for all the men and women who continue to keep this country running during these unprecedented times.

Thank you to the healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, first responders, fire fighters, police officers, government officials and advisors, and our military.

Thank you to the grocery store workers, restaurant staff, gas station attendants, bankers, suppliers, truckers, and distribution workers.

Thank you to the teachers that continue to educate, nurture and love their students virtually.

And thank you to our farmers that are #StillFarming to supply the food, fibers and renewable fuel sources to keep this country running. Thank you for your continued work to provide for this country through the uncertainty!

Spring is here and farmers are planting the seeds of another crop year. We ask you again this year to be vigilant on the roads and look out for farmers as they move equipment.

  • Recognize the Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) Emblem, a triangle with a fluorescent red-orange center and red retro-reflective border.
  • Be prepared to slow down and wait to pass.
  • Farmers will move over and let you pass when it is safe to do so.
  • Also be aware of farm equipment turning left. When turning, one flasher will become a solid light while the other flasher will continue to blink indicating the direction of the turn.
  • Brake sooner than you think, cars traveling at 55 mph will close in quickly on slow moving farm equipment.
  • Even if you slow down to 20 mph and follow a tractor for 2 miles, it only takes 6 minutes of your time, approximately equivalent to stopping at two stoplights.

When on the road this spring, be prepared to slow down for moving farm equipment. Right now, we are all learning the value of time and slowing down. Remember, it may only be a few extra minutes out of your day, but it can save your life and the lives of others on the road:  fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters. Let’s share the road and have a safe spring!
